Meditation can be life-changing. It’s the key to spiritual, and sometimes, even emotional or physical transformation. Meditation can lead to better health and wellbeing. I truly can’t say enough about the benefits of meditation.

Meditation can help you:

  • Deal with stress

  • Improve sleep

  • Spark creativity

Also, meditation can improve your emotional state, helping you:

  • Cope easier

  • React less

  • Feel more peace and calmness

  • Focus your mind

  • Anchor your mind and body

Meditation is the basis to practicing true presence, which boils down to being available to those we love and being a better listener.

So, how do you start meditating and how do you stick with it?

Meditation can seem intimidating at first, because it can create the impression you have to sit still and silent in an uncomfortable position. That does not sound like fun! Follow these four tips to start your journey with meditation.

Establish a meditation routine.

Where is the best place for you to be relaxed and quiet yet alert?

What is the best time of day for you to meditate?

What would help you create this kind of space for you?

Where will you sit? On a cushion, yoga mat or chair?

Would essential oils or a candle help set the tone?

You may have to experiment, especially if you have other people or pets at home. If you have small children, it can be challenging to find a time and place where no one will disturb you.

I suggest you try different things out to see what works best for you. And don’t forget to turn your phone on do not disturb.

Find the right position

Sitting on a hard yoga mat in a cross-legged position may not be comfy for everyone, so experiment with what works best for your body. It is important that your spine is straight for the flow of energy through your body. Take a couple of deep breaths to make sure your body is not rigid but relaxed. Take note of your neck and shoulder position. Are they straight?

Start Small

You may not have 30 minutes to dedicate when you’re beginning this practice. Start with even three minutes to begin. Mini meditations throughout the day can be very effective to start practicing just BEING instead of DOING. Your meditation practice will gain momentum as you go. Also, remember that each meditation will be different. Sometimes you will end a meditation with clarity or what we call Divine Knowing.

Use guided meditations

Eventually, you may find guided meditations useful. The support of someone cueing you to breathe in and out and reminding you to notice without judgment can be so encouraging. Free resources are available readily, like the videos on my YouTube channel or seek out live meditation events such as the ones I have hosted previously. Sign up for my newsletter to make sure you receive announcements about new live events.

I hope you’ll give yourself the time to meditate! Just get started and see what happens. And know that I am always here to support you. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Sending you so much love and light.
